WATCH: Joe Denly drops dolly to give reprieve to Kane Williamson in Hamilton
Joe Denly drops dolly: The English batsman dropped an unbelievable catch to hand a reprieve to the opposition captain in Hamilton.
During the fifth day of the second Test of the ongoing England’s tour of New Zealand in Hamilton, England batsman Joe Denly dropped a simple chance to give a reprieve to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
It all happened on the fourth delivery of the 49th over when Williamson was perhaps deceived by England fast bowler Jofra Archer’s change in action. Archer not using his front arm in his action could have made Williamson play a false shot towards Denly at short mid-wicket.
With Williamson mis-timing the ball gently in the air, it was the simplest of chances for Denly. However, the 33-year old player’s lapse in concentration saw him dropping it in an unbelievable manner.
Considering how simple the catch was, Archer was already seen celebrating only to realize that Denly has made a mess of what was a gift from Williamson.
Trailing by 101 runs in the second innings, all New Zealand had to do was see out the day in a match where result was hard to find. Resuming from their overnight score of 96/2, an unbeaten 213-run partnership for the third wicket between Williamson (104 not out) and veteran batsman Ross Taylor (105 not out) ensured a draw for New Zealand.
