Steve Cook given straight red for a ludicrous handball during Norwich vs Bournemouth
Steve Cook given straight red for a ludicrous handball during Norwich vs Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
Bournemouth’s Steve Cook produced the save of the season when he purposely handled the ball in plain sight of everyone. Naturally he was shown the red card for his dissent. However, to the Bournemouth faithful, he was a selfless hero.
In the first half at Carrow road, Cherries keeper, Aaron Ramsdale ran out of his goal to thwart Norwich Striker Teemu Pukki. However, noticing the keeper leave his line, Ondrej Duda curled one towards the goal if not for Steve Cook’s moment of madness.

The Bournemouth defender was sat in the box when the kick was taken. The panicked defended proceeded to raise his hand towards the ball and prevented an obvious goal. He was immediately shown the Red Card before VAR confirmed its easiest decision yet.
Steve Cook just did what every dude does at his casual Sunday afternoon 5-a-side when the keeper runs out and you think you can replace him with a casual hand ball save 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/PUkic3a7GS

The sacrifice was reminiscent of Luis Suarez’s own hand of god during the 2010 World Cup which helped Uruguay avoid an obvious goal. The corresponding penalty from the foul was missed and eventually helped the South America side to progress in the tournament.
Unfortunately for Cook, there was no salvation in his sacrifice as Pukki comfortably put one past Ramsdale to score the opener.
At the moment of writing Norwich still have the one goal lead with an hour completed in the match. The Canaries look good to register their first premier league win in 5 games.
