Manchester United injury update

Manchester United injury update: Jose Mourinho is set to receive a big boost as United’s important first-team player could return this week.

Manchester United are going through a rough phase at the moment. The side are 8th in the Premier League and lost the first Manchester derby of the season last weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side emerged at the top as they outclassed Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Anthony Martial scored the sole goal for United, scoring in his fifth consecutive Premier League game.

Mourinho’s side is below Bournemouth and Watford in the league table. Interestingly, Manchester United defeated both the sides in the league earlier this season.

However, the side would receive a big boost for the weekend game against Crystal Palace as Premier League action returns after the international break.

Manchester United injury update:

In the Manchester derby, Jose Mourinho’s side was without one of their key performers, Paul Pogba. The midfielder didn’t participate in the training sessions and was ultimately left out of the squad as United were humbled 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Jose Mourinho could breathe a sigh of relief as Paul Pogba, as well as Anthony Martial could return this weekend. According to ESPN, the French duo has been recovering well and is expected to be available for the game against Crystal Palace.

Both the players withdrew from international duty in the ongoing break.

Manchester United’s midfield looked far from creative as they took on the defending champions in the final game before the international break. Even when United look good in patches, their midfield was being consistently overrun.

However, the information on Victor Lindelof is still awaited. The defender played 45 minutes against Turkey for Sweden before being substituted, with teammate Andreas Granqvist stating that Lindelof was feeling unwell before the game.

If Lindelof remains unavailable for the game, Phil Jones could partner Chris Smalling in the central defence, as Eric Bailly seems to have fallen out-of-favour with Jose Mourinho.

What next?

Manchester United, who are currently 8th in the Premier League table, will aim to close the gap with the top-five when they play Crystal Palace. Mourinho’s side will return to Champions League action on Tuesday when they take on Young Boys.

United are currently 2nd in the group, two points behind Italian side Juventus.
