WATCH: Nitish Rana’s quickfire century leads Delhi to emphatic win vs Vidarbha in Ranji Trophy
Nitish Rana’s quickfire century: The senior Delhi batsman scored his sixth First-class century in an emphatic chase in Delhi.
During an elite group league match of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Delhi and Vidarbha at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi vice-captain Nitish Rana registered his sixth First-class century to lead his team to an emphatic victory against the defending champions.
It all started after Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal declared their second innings on 330/3 in 76.5 overs giving Delhi two overs to bat on Day 3.
In reply, Delhi openers Kunal Chandela (75) and Hiten Dalal (82) not only survived the two overs on the penultimate day but ended up stitching a match-winning 163-run opening stand to lay a solid foundation for the others to follow.

Perhaps, it was the aforementioned foundation which inspired the hosts to promote Rana at No. 3 in place of captain Dhruv Shorey. Having made his intentions clear with respect to chasing the target and not playing for a draw, the southpaw completed his half-century off 26 balls to make the contest all the more intriguing.
The sheer disrespect with which Rana treated a bowling attack comprising of India fast bowler Umesh Yadav was the highlight of his innings. With eyes set on the target, the 26-year old batsman appeared to be in his quintessential T20 mode.
Nitish Rana’s quickfire century
Needing five runs to win the match and only one to complete his century, Rana slog swept Vidarbha spinner Akshay Wakhare for a six which was followed by a passionate celebration on the part of all the Delhi players for they successfully chased the target in 73 overs.
Having scored a brisk 105* (68) with the help of eight fours and seven sixes, Rana was declared the Man of the Match.
