Mitchell McClenaghan gives sarcastic reply: The Kiwi fast bowler didn’t shy away from admitting who he was supporting in Hamilton T20I.

During the third T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Hamilton, India beat New Zealand in an engrossing super over to gain an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Having played their first T20I in New Zealand in 2009, India have registered their maiden series victory after 11 years. Vice-captain Rohit Sharma followed his 20th T20 half-century with a magnificent performance in the super over which saw him scoring 10 runs off the last two deliveries to win the match.

Earlier, it was New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who won the toss and invited India to bat first. On the back of Sharma’s 65 (40), India posted 179/5 in 20 overs despite looking set to cross the 200-run mark at one point in time.

Playing a lone hand in a 180-run chase, Williamson’s career-best innings saw him scoring 95 (48) before succumbing to both pressure and India fast bowler Mohammed Shami in the last over.

The frequent twists and turns in the match had brought out the best from fans across social media platforms. New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan was among the enthusiasts who couldn’t hide their excitement.

McClenaghan’s aforementioned tweet made fans ask him with respect to whether he tweeted for his New Zelaand captain Williamson or his Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma since both the players had done exceedingly well in the match.

Being asked the question twice, McClenaghan didn’t shy away from admitting that he was wax lyrical about Sharma who hit the winning runs for India.

Having made his IPL debut in 2015, McClenaghan has been playing for Mumbai Indians for five years now. The left-arm pacer was part of Indians’ title-winning squads in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
