Kane Williamson amusingly chases cap: New Zealand’s captain was involved in a funny incident in the second session at the Basin Reserve.
During the first day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Wellington, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was involved in an amusing on-field incident involving his cap.
It all happened on the 46th over of the Indian winnings when strong wind blew off Williamson’s cap. Fielding at mid-off, Williamson was then seen racing off to the boundary as the wind took the cap outside the boundary.
The Kiwi captain was eventually helped by New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell who handed his captain’s cap back to him.
There is no hiding to the fact that wind plays a strong role in defining the conditions at the Basin Reserve. While batsmen are mostly found wanting against the wind in Wellington, it was hysterical to watch a fielder facing consequences of the prevailing conditions.

It was Williamson who had won the toss and opted to field in the morning. The hosts’ bowlers justified their captain’s decision as India could only score 122/5 in 55 overs before rain played spoilsport to rule out any further play on Day 1.
Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 18th over, India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (38*) top-scored for them until play was suspended. Playing alongside wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, India would be hoping for the pair to provide a rescue act tomorrow.
Having dismissed the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara (11) and Virat Kohli (2) in quick succession, debutant New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson was the pick of their bowlers today.

Kane Williamson’s cap has raced away to the boundary. Such strong is the wind. 12th man Daryll Mitchell picks it up and hands it back. A little while ago bails had come off. 🌪️#NZvIND
