WATCH: Krishnappa Gowtham and Jagadeesha Suchith commit hilarious error to give four runs to Sudip Chatterjee in Ranji Trophy semi-final
Krishnappa Gowtham and Jagadeesha Suchith commit hilarious error: The two fielders from Karnataka registered a howler.
During the second semi-final of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Bengal and Karnataka in Kolkata, Karnataka all-rounders in Krishnappa Gowtham and Jagadeesha Suchith joined hands to commit a hilarious error to gift Bengal batsman Sudeep Chatterjee a boundary.
It all happened on the fourth delivery of the eighth over when Chatterjee flicked a delivery from Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna.
While Gowtham ran to his left from deep square leg, substitute fielder Suchith ran to his right from deep fine leg to stop the ball. Leave aside calling for the ball, both the fielders relying on each other saw none of them stop the ball as it went between them for a four.
Eventually, both Gowtham and Suchith were witnessed looking at each other helplessly. With Bengal already registering a 190-run lead, the visitors giving away easy runs added to their woes.
Chasing Bengal’s first innings score of 312, Karnataka were bundled out for 122 in 36.2 overs in a shambolic batting performance. Having scored 31 (24) with the help of four fours and a six, Gowtham was the highest run-scorer for his team.
Bengal seamer Ishan Porel (13-2-39-5) picked his third First-class five-wicket haul to dismantle the opposition. Other than Porel, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar dismissed three and two batsmen respectively.
Karnataka fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun (6-2-9-3) bowled well in the second innings to reduce the hosts to 72/4 in 22 overs. With Bengal leading by 262 runs at Stumps on the second day, they are surely ahead in the match.
