Ferrari second team to test its 2020 car ahead of F1 season starter at Austria
Ferrari second-team tested the SF1000 on the streets of Maranello, the hometown of the Italian giants ahead of the start of the new season.
Now that the season is on verge of starting next month, F1 teams have started warming up on the streets. Mercedes and Renault tested their 2018 cars as part of their preparations. Racing Point, formerly known as Force India, became the first team from the grid to test their 2020 car.
Ferrari followed suit, and have tested their 2020 car with their young driver Charles Leclerc. This will give him and Scuderia Ferrari a considerable boost heading into the season.
It was the first time in recent memory that a current F1 car has been driven around Ferrari’s iconic home town, Maranello. It started at the Officina Classiche, and Leclerc also crossed the front gate of the original factory, where Ferrari used to be based.
He ended the test at the Fiorano test track. This must have been quite a special moment for Leclerc. He feels the same:
“I don’t normally like getting up early, but this morning there was a great reason to do so,” said Leclerc. “Maybe it woke a few people up, but it was great to drive through the streets of Maranello in the SF1000.
“It was exciting to get back in the car today, particularly on such a special route. Being back in the cockpit felt like coming home again.
“It seemed like a fun way of saying we are ready to get back on track. Now I can’t wait to drive the SF1000 in Austria.”
Good morning Maranello !
