Rafa Nadal: “I almost destroyed my wrist at last year’s French Open”
The French Open draw is out and Rafa Nadal would be vying for a 10th Roland Garros title this time round, a feat that he could have achieved last year, had it not been for an injured wrist. Nadal had to bow out of the tournament in the 3rd round, as he was unable to take the court due to a severe wrist damage, something that prevented him from featuring on tour for the rest of the year.
While talking to Eurosport today, Nadal revealed the reason for pulling out in the third round last year.
“It was not a decision – it was an obligation. I almost destroyed my wrist at Roland Garros,”
“What seemed doable on Monday was more difficult on Friday. I was playing well and pushed further until my wrist said ‘no’. After that, the rest of the year was complicated.”
Nadal would be starting his campaign against the hard hitting Benoit Paire and could be facing Milos Raonic in a mouth watering quarter final. Novak Djokovic has been drawn in the same half as Rafa, and the two could be meet each other in a potential semi final.
With Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid already in the bag, Rafa seems to be in the brilliant touch on clay, and will be hoping to replicate that form in Paris as well.
“My forehand is getting better and better. The rest of my game is working well and there aren’t too many ups and downs at the moment,”
