Alexander Zverev violates self-quarantine protocols after Adria Tour coronavirus tragedy

Alexander Zverev did not test positive from the event, but he was expected to follow quarantine rules. But in a video, he is seen partying.

The Adria Tour has been mired in controversy ever since the news broke out that multiple players and staff have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The decision to contact the exhibition has been heavily criticized across the board,  with calls intensifying for Novak Djokovic to step down from his role at the player’s council.

After this broke down, it was expected of all the players and staff to quarantine themselves. Alexander Zverev was one of them. He even apologized for participating in the event. And also assured he would self-isolate himself.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case. In the video tweeted by Ben Rothenberg, Zverev is seen partying with a large group. He seems to be clearly enjoying himself, apparently forgetting he survived a major scare in the Adria Tour.

He is also in clear violation of the quarantine rules. This is a disappointing and will give him intense negative publicity. This incident also serves as a reminder of the parties as part of the Adria Tour. Nick Kyrgios had tweeted  a video in which Novak and his peers are seen partying, before they all tested positive.

These events present a very grim future for lawn tennis in 2020, and potentially beyond. With top players like Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov testing positive, the resumption of tennis looks improbable.

The US and French Open Grand Slam were scheduled for later this year, and it remains to be seen if it goes ahead. The hope right now is that the players and staff recover from the virus quickly, and the ATP tour somehow gets the start it needs.
