Babar Azam against delaying T20 World Cup: The Pakistani limited-overs captain is confident of his team’s performance in the shortest format.

Much like veteran batsman Fawad Alam, Pakistan limited-overs captain Babar Azam has opened up on learning from the stellar support staff including chief selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq, batting coach Younis Khan, fast bowling coach Waqar Younis and spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed during the tour of England.

“I and other players will benefit immensely from their presence. They are four of our greatest legends. They have loads of experience. It’s our duty to learn from them and I’m sure all of us will do that. I’m keen to learn the art of captaincy from them,” Azam told the reporters.

Pakistan, who had dominated the top spot in ICC’s T20I rankings for quite sometime, have dropped down to the fourth position on the back of losing nine out of their last 10 matches. Azam, who is young on captaincy experience with just five T20Is under his belt, has expressed confidence in the team finding form in England.

“Yes, we did lose a few matches and our ranking has unfortunately gone down. What happened is that we did some experimentation and tried out several players. We are now sure about the combination, which includes both youth and experience. I’m confident that we will do well in the T20 series against England and improve our ranking,” Azam said.

Apart from playing three T20Is in England, Azam is also looking forward to playing the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 for it will be his first world event as a captain. Despite the uncertainty around the future of the World Cup, the 25-year old player wants it to be played according to “schedule”.

“And if the World Cup is held according to schedule, I’m confident that our team will do well in it. As a professional cricketer, I hope that the T20 World Cup is held according to schedule.

“As Pakistan’s captain, I would really want that the World Cup is not delayed as it will be my first World Cup as skipper. But it’s up to the authorities to decide,” Azam added.
