Garbine Muguruza breaks down after French Open exit
The reigning French Open champion, Garbine Muguruza exited the French Open, after she lost to French number one, Kiki Mladenovic. In what was one of the best matches of the tournament so far, the home town favorite downed the Spaniard, as Mladenovic took a huge step towards the French Open title. After the match, Garbine Muguruza broke down in the press conference, as she bid goodbye to Roland Garros.
It was a terrific display of skill and perseverance, as both women played their hearts out in front of a partisan French crowd. Muguruza was upset with the way the crowd treated her throughout the match, as they were heard shouting obscene things to the Spaniard.

On so-called fan told her to, “f— off back to Venezuela”.
“The crowd today was a little bit tough for me,” said Muguruza. “I understand [but] I just think that they should be a little bit more respectful. We had to stop. The chair umpire has to always calm the crowd down. I’m not here to create enemies. I mean, I love playing here. It’s not a good feeling.”
But Mladenovic differed in her opinion, as she did not believe that the crowd crossed the line. “I don’t think that they crossed the line,” she said. “I experienced something in Germany where it was way more fired up, but I didn’t criticize the crowd being unfair or anything, because it’s also normal to see the crowd picking out their favorite.”
In the press conference, Muguruza was asked if the cries of, “forza” – Italian for “come on”, which were uttered by Mladenovic after her opponent’s faults had disturbed her. It was at this point that the Spaniard broke down, and had to leave the press room to compose herself.
