Silverstone Grand Prix: Triple header British GP a possibility after coronavirus scare in Spain
A triple header Silverstone Grand Prix could be a possibility with reports of Spanish GP getting cancelled coming in because of a coronavirus scare.
Just as when everything seemed to be falling on track, with 10 races being confirmed, the F1 season might receive a setback.
Reports have surfaced that due to the sudden re-outburst of the coronavirus, the Spanish GP might be called off. It is scheduled to he held on the weekend of 16th August.
This is after the two races at Silverstone – the Silverstone GP and the 70th anniversary GP. The latter is a special race to mark 70 years of the existence of Formula One.

A triple header Silverstone Grand Prix
The region of Catalonia, where Barcelona is situated, is at the risk of re-emergence of positive cases. This comes after a lock-down being imposed in the province of Segrià. Barcelona is approximately two hundred kilometres away from the affected province.
If the situation doesn’t improve, then the FOM will have no option but to take the race elsewhere. As for now, a triple-header at Silverstone seems like the most likely situation.
The season has currently taken a week-long breather, after two races at Austria and one at Hungary. Recently, two races were added to the F1 2020 calendar – Mugello and Sochi. Mugello is owned and operated by Ferrari, the most successful team in F1. It will host its first ever Formula One Grand Prix.
On the other hand, the race at Shanghai, China could be called off to prevent a re-emergence of the virus. This poses a challenge for the FIA and FOM, as they push to confirm 5-8 races more for this already virus-curtailed season.
