James Vince dismisses Andrew Balbirnie: The English captain’s wild card bowling selection yield fruits for his team.

During the second ODI of the ongoing Ireland’s tour of England in Southampton, England captain Eoin Morgan introduced batsman James Vince into the bowling attack to surprise one and all.

Vince, who was asked to bowl for the first time in his 27th white-ball international match, received the opportunity ahead of spinner Adil Rashid and seamer Saqib Mahmood.

On the second delivery of his second over, Vince justified Morgan’s decision by dismissing Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie (15). In what was a soft dismissal, Balbirnie intended to cut a short, wide and nothing delivery from Vince but then wanted to withdrew his bat.

Not being able to do the same at the right time, Balbirnie ended up edging the delivery to England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow. Vince, who was perhaps introduced to get some overs off a sixth bowler, picking a wicket was a huge bonus for the hosts.

Ireland haven’t particularly done exceedingly well after Balbirnie won the toss and elected to bat. Having scored 66/4 in the first 20 overs, the visitors need a significant partnership to post a respectable target for England.

Seamer David Willey, who registered his career-best ODI figures in the previous match, once again made early inroads by picking a couple of top-order wickets.
