Pakistan tour of England 2020: Jason Roy ruled out of T20I series due to side strain
Jason Roy ruled out of T20I series: The English opening batsman will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan.
England opening batsman Jason Roy has been ruled out of England’s imminent three-match T20I series against Pakistan starting from tomorrow.
In a development published on the official website of England Cricket, it is mentioned that Roy developed a left side strain while preparing in the build-up of the series. The same was confirmed after a scan on Wednesday.
England haven’t named a replacement for Roy as they already have reserve opening batsmen in Tom Banton and Dawid Malan in their 14-member squad.
Roy, meanwhile, will remain with the T20I squad to commence his rehabilitation program ahead of the white-ball series to be played against Australia in September.
Jason Roy ruled out of T20I series
Roy, who returned with scores of 24, 0 and 1 in the Ireland series and 4 and 14 while representing Surrey in the Bob Willis Trophy, hasn’t been among the runs since resuming cricket post the COVID-19 lockdown.
Despite these paltry numbers to go with the fact that Roy has only played four T20Is in the last two years, England will surely miss his partnership at the top with wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow. With two ICC T20 World Cups in the next two years, England would have wanted to start fielding their best batsmen in specialist positions.
