“We won’t play”- Anthony Davis sends warning to Lakers and NBA owners over social reform plans
Anthony Davis says players will not play if NBA owners do not put in the effort they promised on the social reform front.
The past couple days have been filled with talk surrounding racial injustice against black people and none have been more outspoken about this than the NBA players.
NBA players boycotted Playoff games on Wednesday in protest against systemic racism. The NBPA agreed to continue on with the Playoffs as long as the NBA league as a whole, including team owners/governors were actively helping to abolish systemic racism in America.
Team arenas turned into Voting places
One of the major accords that was agreed upon between the team governors and the NBPA was that team facilities be converted into voting locations open to the public. This was done to put the massive team arenas to good use and to also urge the public to vote for suitable candidates.
NBA owners also pledged to donate $300 million in an effort to curb the spread of systemic racism throughout the US. The decision did however receive some scrutiny, claiming it was not enough.
Anthony Davis warns Lakers and NBA Owners
The Los Angeles Lakers super star was not shy to send a message to NBA owners, to let them know that the players will not hesitate to leave the bubble if the NBA owners do not stick to their word.
Davis’ ‘threat’ comes at a time when things are a little sensitive inside the Bubble and players demand immediate action, so as to enforce real change in the society.
