IPL 2020 news: Mumbai Indians launch ‘smart ring’ to combat coronavirus
Mumbai Indians launch ‘smart ring’: The defending champions have come up with an NBA-style equipment to fight coronavirus.
Playing a tournament such as the Indian Premier League amidst the COVID-19 pandemic involves plentiful challenges – maintaining optimum health of all players involved being the primary one.
It is for the same reason that IPL 2020 is being played inside a bio-secure bubble. In addition to all players not allowed to breach bio-bubble restrictions, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has handed teams a bluetooth-enabled contact tracing device and asked them to fill in a daily fitness form through a Health App.
Indian Premier League defending champions Mumbai Indians have gone a step ahead by implementing NBA-style “smart ring” to collect all health-related data of their players.

The development was made public by a source close to the franchise during an interaction with ANI. The source revealed how the ring will help in spotting asymptomatic signals in advance and warn the franchise regarding the same.
“The ring picks up a person’s vital data — heart rate, heart rate variation, respiratory rate and body temperature among other details — and then flags any irregular trend in advance so that asymptomatic signals can be spotted at the earliest and dealt with.

“The ring monitors the person’s pulse, movements and temperature to present a complete picture so that helps in daily analysis. NBA [National Basketball Association] has made use of the similar ring health device,” the source said.
Under captain Rohit Sharma, Mumbai have lifted four IPL titles – most by any team. Having landed in UAE with a formidable squad, MI would be looking to register yet another successful season in the biggest T20 league around the world.
