Kidambi Srikanth makes a big promise to his fans

Kidambi Srikanth is enjoying his best ever time in the World Badminton Circuit. He has broken into the top 10 in the world and recently became just the 5th player to have ever won two back-to-back Super Series titles.

But for Srikanth, the road to the top has just begun. He is motivated enough to go on like this for years to come, and wants his fans to know that the journey has just started.

“I am really playing well. I am very confident and this is the best I ever played so far but the best is yet to come,” said Srikanth

Srikanth recently beat the reigning Olympic Champion, Chen Long, to win the Australian Open Super Series. It was also the first time Srikanth overcame the ‘Chen Long’ challenge, having failed in five previous meetings.

“I beat him for the first time. I was very happy as I did it in a final of a Superseries,”  Srikanth told IANS reporters.

The Indian men’s badminton circuit is on the rise, having lived in the shadow of Sindhu and Saina for a long time. But the current crop of male players are making it huge in the world circuit, going deep Super Series events.

However, Gopichand feels that there is still a long way to go for India to be termed as a superpower in Badminton, as the domestic circuit and infrastructure isn’t top notch.

Srikanth has been compared with the likes of Gopichand and Padukone after his recent exploits, but he feels that there is still a long way to go to be spoken about in the same breath as these greats.

“I don’t think I can compare myself with Prakash Sir or Gopichand Sir. I need to achieve a lot more to compare myself with them. Gopi Sir is my inspiration and it is because of him I took the sport,” he said
