Ravi Shastri warns Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni

Now that Ravi Shastri has been officially made the coach, we all want to see how he will succeed Kumble as the head coach of the Indian team.

In spite of the acrimonious end to his time as the coach, Anil Kumble had an extremely successful time with team India.

India had one of its most successful home seasons in recent memory, beating the likes of New Zealand, Bangladesh, England and Australia.

But Kumble was not able to continue his working relationship with Kohli, which is why he stepped down as the coach.

Shastri had a successful stint as the team director a couple of years ago, and will be hoping to continue it this time around.

His great rapport with Virat Kohli was one the biggest reasons why Shastri was able to get the job. But while he is an advocate of Kohli’s aggressive style, the futures of Dhoni and Yuvraj do not look very bright anymore.

Shastri is reportedly trying to look at a future which does not have Yuvraj and Dhoni in the picture. While the two have been wonderful servants to Indian cricket, their current contribution has raised serious question marks over their place in the side.

This is what Shastri said in an interview,

“Team knows my approach. They know how close they can be with me and how much of a distance they need to maintain from me. There’s a good understanding between me and the team.”

This is what he said on Dhoni and Yuvraj,

“Their experience will be invaluable and their performance from the last 10-15 years should be respected. Fitness and current form are the two most important parameters to judge their future,” added Shastri.

“I got the information last night from BCCI CEO Rahul Johri. He told me that it is official and I have been appointed as the new head coach. Questions were different from last time… some good questions were being asked from all three of them – Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. I really enjoyed the interview,” he said.

“Both Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan have played high-level cricket and they have got so much of experience. When you are out playing for 150 days and then suddenly when someone comes from outside and gives you fresh inputs, it creates a lot of difference. It is a positive step,” he said.

“I don’t need to immediately try out many things. I will start from where I left last year. I know this team and I would want this to be a happy unit and also consistent in all the three formats. This team has the ability to be consistent and win abroad. We are definitely ready for the challenge ahead,” he said.
