“I’m shocked”- Lance Stroll after sealing pole position in Turkish Grand Prix qualifying
“I’m shocked”- Lance Stroll after sealing pole position in the Turkish Grand Prix qualifying by beating Max Verstappen with a slight margin.
Formula 1 witnessed a crazy day at work with the drivers having to manage the wet floor which caused multiple slip-ups in the meantime. The situation was so bad that the Q1 session saw red flags twice.
Though, only random slips were not the surprising thing during the qualifying. One thing which outclassed everything was Lance Stroll snatching the pole position away from Max Verstappen.
And also both Mercedes cars dropping out of the top five of the qualifying for the first time since 2013. With this, Stroll was not able to fully grasp the magnitude of his achievement and was full of joy.

“I’m shocked. We didn’t look to compete in final practice but I’m so happy right now, I really put that lap together at the end, I only had one lap to do it on the inters,” said Stroll to the Skysports.
“I had the confidence in the car and I just nailed pretty much every corner, pieced it together nicely and such a nice way to bounce back after a few tough weeks.
“To put it on the pole is a special moment for me, one of the biggest of my career,” he concluded.
One rain made a country proud
Stroll despite being criticized for his privilege in the sport has finally proved his credibility by winning the pole position despite all the odds. Meanwhile, this also made him the first Canadian not called ‘Villeneuve’ ever to take pole position.
Only his compatriots Jacques and Gilles Villeneuve have achieved it before. An interesting record which further bolsters the relevance of Stroll in Formula 1.
Though, with Verstappen sitting right behind him ahead of the race and Red Bull looking strong under such conditions, definitely, it would be a hard task for him to go for his first Formula 1 win.
