“I wanted to wait until I’d done my job“- Lewis Hamilton discusses that the pressure to perform this season kept his discussions over new contract aside.
Lewis Hamilton is yet to confirm his future with Mercedes, even though it is known that if he wishes to break Michael Schumacher’s record of most number of drivers’ championship won, he has to stay with the Silver Arrows.
Speaking on it, the Briton driver has confessed that he kept away from any dialogue for a new contract because of already mounted pressure of sealing the championship this season.
”We certainly need to look at that now, but during the year I didn’t think it was necessary to put any extra pressure on. I have a contract. It has to be something organic and not something forced”, says the Brit to Motorsportweek.com about the contract negotiations with his team.
”There are days when you think ‘what if I make more mistakes now? What will happen if all of a sudden you can’t do that. I know there are risks, but I’m gambling on myself and in the meantime, I know better than anyone what I can do and how to do it. Maybe better than ever.”
”That’s why I wanted to wait until I’d done my job. In the next few weeks, it will probably happen now that things have calmed down a bit. We still have three races in the Middle East that I want to win. It’s not quite finished yet, but I’m sure it will be all right”, concludes Hamilton.
Mercedes determined to continue its rule
Meanwhile, even Toto Wolff has confirmed about his future with Mercedes and re-assured that Hamilton’s contract extension talks are not a worry for them.
On the other hand, Hamilton after the Turkish Grand Prix also claimed that he wishes to continue in the sport, hence, unofficially confirming the plans of Mercedes for 2021, which may extend their reign in the sport.
