“Lakers still run this town”- Kendrick Perkins salutes LeBron James and mocks Clippers in explosive statement
Kendrick Perkins says that the Los Angeles Lakers have won this year’s free agency over their in-city rivals, the Clippers.
Despite winning the 2020 NBA championship, the Los Angeles Lakers front office was not content with the way the roster was constructed. So once free agency began more on the 16th, the Lakers got to work to improve a championship team.
The Los Angeles Clippers on the other hand, got eliminated in the second round of the Playoffs after blowing a 3-1 lead. This should warrant a roster shake-up but the Clippers have been awfully quiet this offseason, when compared to their city rivals.
Though the Clips have made some roster improvements, Rob Pelinka flat out made more moves to cement themselves as favorites to repeat.
Kendrick Perkins believes Lakers outgunned Clippers in the offseason
On the latest edition of ESPN’s First Take, Kendrick Perkins didn’t hold back on the Los Angeles Clippers and their offseason moves.
Perkins said, “I’m looking at what Rob Pelinka has done, and he has straight Deebo’d the Los Angeles Clippers and let them know that the Lakers still run this town. So we’re going to take Montrezl Harrell and kick y’all out of the Staples Center.”

Perkins was persistent on bashing the Clippers for letting Montrezl Harrell walk; especially since he went to the Lakers. LeBron James will have a field time dishing to Harrell in the pick-and-roll.
The ‘Deebo’ reference is of course a reference to the iconic movie, Friday, where Deebo constantly bullies Chris Rock and Ice Cube’s characters. LeBron James did virtually the same
Will Serge Ibaka be an upgrade over Montrezl Harrell?
Defensively, Serge Ibaka is most certainly an upgrade. Harrell is known to chase blocks, just like Hassan Whiteside, but ultimately, his defensive rating is still quite low among centers in the league.
Offensively however, Montrezl is a shifty 6’8″ frontcourt player who can take other bigs off the dribble and explode to the rim. All in all, the Clippers have not nearly made enough upgrades to their roster to match the moves the Lakers and Pelinka made.
