What did Cavani Say : Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani Faces Potential Three Match Ban For Racial Post
What did Edison Cavani Tweet : The striker used a derogatory term on Instagram whilst celebrating his side’s win over Southampton.
The hero of Manchester United’s sensational second half revival at the weekend, Edison Cavani finds himself in a soup. Following his match winning performance against Southampton, the Manchester United striker took to Instagram to celebrate the club’s triumph with a post which didn’t go down too well.
Cavani Thanks Supporter With “Gracis Negrtio” Comment
Brought on in the second half as his side stared at a two goal deficit, Cavani finally earned his living at the club. Having joined Manchester United only a couple of months, Cavani showcased his credentials with a goal and assist inside only 45 minutes as he helped his side claw back from being 2-0 down to winning 3-2 on the day.
Posting a story on his Instagram account ensuing the remarkable turnaround, Cavani found himself in a muddle after thanking to a supporter’s compliments on his game. Cavani commented the words “gracias negrito!” to thank the follower, words which have in the past landed players in a soup for the racial abuse they concoct.
While Cavani deleted his story soon after the incident, the FA has taken note of the event and is currently further perusing the act of any malice.
The investigations which were launched on Sunday are said to further stretch with Cavani being asked to offer his side of the story ensuing which a three match ban could be levied on the player if found guilty of breaching the guidelines in place.
The ongoing investigation is being undertaken under the ambit of the FA Rule E3 one is responsible for monitoring activity on social platforms If a comment is deemed to include a reference to a person’s ethnic origin, colour, race or nationality, then it will be perceived as a potentially aggravating factor in any punishment.
Bernardo Silva Banned For Tweet Last Season
The most recent incident of a player being banned for what was deemed to be racial abuse occurred last season. Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva was dealt a one-game ban after posting a tweet comparing his teammate Benjamin Mendy to the cartoon figure on a brand of Spanish chocolate.
Premier League And The BLM Movement
The Premier League has been a strong advocate of fighting against the racial abuse dished out to players. The FA had announced their solidarity with the Black Lives Movement taking place in the USA earlier this year with clubs and players taking a knee prior to matches getting underway.
