England tour of Sri Lanka 2021: England to play two Test matches in Sri Lanka in January 2021
England tour of Sri Lanka 2021: England were originally scheduled to play a couple of Test matches in Sri Lanka this year.
Originally scheduled to play a couple of Test matches in Sri Lanka between March 19-31 this year, England will now fulfill the commitment in January 2021 as they look all set to reach the island nation on January 2.
Despite playing a couple of tour matches in Sri Lanka in March, England had to return home due to the COVID-19 outbreak around the world which forced the postponement of the series.
In what will be England’s second-last series of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship, Joe Root and his men would be keen to gather as many points as possible to be in contention for the final match at Lord’s in June next year.

Just as most of the international cricket in being played these days, the two-match Test series will also be part of a bio-bubble in Galle.

Upon landing in Hambantota, the English players will be allowed to train for five days between January 5-9 before the first Test on January 14. Much like the first Test, the second one will also be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, Galle, and will begin from January 22.
England, who are also scheduled for an all-format tour of India in February-March, might directly travel from Sri Lanka to India (or any other venue depending on the fixtures). Talking about the Test squads, England are likely to have similar squads for series in Sri Lanka and India due to the sub-continent conditions.
The last time England have played a Test series in Sri Lanka was two years ago when Root had led England to a 3-0 whitewash under tough conditions.
