“We have a very special surprise this weekend in Abu Dhabi GP for our team members” – Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff has announced a special livery for all team members.

The Mercedes F1 team has been a class apart this season, as they head for the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP. They won the Constructors’ Championship for the seventh consecutive season, a record. Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, and now George Russell have driven the W11 brilliantly, with Hamilton winning the title yet again.

But alongside them, the pit crew and engineers, and everyone else in the team has contributed majorly towards the team’s success. And to honour this, Mercedes will run a special livery featuring names of all team drivers in Abu Dhabi, Toto Wolff confirmed.

“We have a very special surprise this weekend in Abu Dhabi for our team members. We’ll be running a slightly different livery on Saturday and Sunday featuring everyone’s name on the car to honour the huge commitment and determination from everybody in Brixworth and Brackley.”

“Everyone has pushed hard this year, raising the bar through this massively intense season, and we hope this gesture goes some way in showing the appreciation we have for everyone involved.”

Hamilton or George for Mercedes F1 at Abu Dhabi GP?

Toto Wolff did not have a definite answer for this and suggested it could take time to decide Bottas’ partner. For those unaware, Hamilton tested positive for Covid-19 and is a doubt for the Abu Dhabi GP. Today’s media day briefings could give a much clearer picture as to who will sit on the cockpit of the W11 this weekend.

“There are still some question marks over who will be in the car this weekend in Abu Dhabi. Lewis’s condition is improving, but we won’t know until closer to the time if he will be driving. We’ll do everything we can to get him in the car and we know he’s determined to be back as soon as possible. But his health is our main priority, so we will see what the situation is and then make the call.”
