‘I got Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant over Magic and Kareem all day’: Skip Bayless explains which Lakers duo was better
Skip Bayless said he’d pick the duo of Shaq and Kobe Bryant over Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a 2v2 game.
Both of these Lakers duos have carried two of the most dominant teams in NBA history. Magic Johnson’s advent in 1979 allowed the Lakers to become a transition-heavy team, billed as the Showtime Lakers. Together, he and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made it to 8 NBA Finals in 10 seasons.
Kobe Bryant and Shaq have written their own place in league history as the duo to carry the Lakers to 3 straight championships at the turn of the century. The Lakers are, for sure, spoiled in terms of the number of legends they’ve had in their ranks.
All 4 of these players have their own arguments as the Lakers’ greatest players. It is a hair-splitting exercise to really pick one duo over the other.
Skip Bayless makes the argument that Kobe Bryant and Shaq are a better duo than Magic and Kareem
One of the talking points on TNT’s ‘Outside the NBA’ show was Shaq proclaiming that Magic and Kareem couldn’t have stopped him and Kobe. Chuck interjected him by saying that he himself couldn’t have stopped Kareem. But the point had been made, and it was there for the world to pick sides about.
Skip went with the younger duo of the duo:
“I have Magic ranked 2nd on my all-time list behind the true GOAT MJ. But Shaq is superior to Kareem and would destroy him. Shaq & Kobe were just two cold-blooded alpha dogs.”

Unlike the average Undisputed segment containing Skip’s not-so-subtle shots at LeBron, this was a compelling watch. Both Shannon and Skip went into depth about how each player of the 4 would fare in a prospective 2-v-2 game.
