Alex Carey and Harry Conway: The pair from Adelaide Strikers will miss the imminent match against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.

Adelaide Strikers captain Alex Carey and fast bowler Harry Conway will miss their imminent BBL 2020-21 match against Brisbane Heat due to their involvement in a first-class match between Australia A and India at the Drummoyne Oval in Sydney earlier this month.

Carey, who has scored 55 and 9 in his two BBL appearances this season, is highly likely to be replaced by former Australia pacer Peter Siddle as the captain. It is worth mentioning that the 36-year old player had led Strikers in the season opener against Hobart Hurricanes.

Following a recent COVID-19 outbreak on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Queensland government has forced a border closure for anyone travelling from Greater Sydney after December 9. A mandatory 14-day quarantine in Queensland would make less sense for players who have to play a match in the next day or two.

After playing against Sydney Sixers in Hobart on Sunday night, Carey and Conway weren’t allowed to fly to Brisbane which will host its first BBL match this season tomorrow. With Hobart not having any such regulation, players were allowed to play at the Bellerive Oval despite the Australia A match in Greater Sydney.

Unlike Carey, Conway is yet to play a match for Strikers in BBL 10. In five T20s for Strikers last season, Conway had picked as many wickets at an average of 28.80, an economy rate of 8.31 and a strike rate of 20.80.

In addition to Carey and Conway, Melbourne Stars batsman Nic Maddinson will also miss their next match against Sydney Sixers at Gold Coast due to the same reason.
