Tagenarine Chanderpaul 83: Did Shivnarine Chanderpaul son act in Ranveer Singh-starer 83?

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of the legendary West Indian batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has impressed one and all during his maiden international appearance for the Windies, in the ongoing first Test against Australia at the Perth Stadium.

In reply to Australia’s massive total of 598/4 d in their first innings, the Southpaw batter, who bears an uncanny resemblance with his father while he takes his stance at the crease, soaked in all the pressure before a top-notch Aussie pace bowling attack to smash a half-century on his debut Test innings.

Alongside his skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, Tagenarine stiched together a 78-run stand for the opening wicket, and got dismissed at the individual score of 51 off 79 deliveries.

Even in the second innings, while chasing the mammoth target of 498 runs, the left-hander contributed 45 runs with the bat, with the Windies taking the match to the final day with 7 wickets still in the bank.

Even before making his Test debut for West Indies, Tagenarine Chanderpaul made a special debut in a Bollywood movie ’83’ – based on team India’s journey under skipper Kapil Dev (played by Ranveer Singh), which lifted the 1983 World Cup.

The movie which was released last year, was praised by fans and critics alike and what made it even more special was the fact that a few sons of the then Indian and West Indian cricketers played their father or other cricketers on-screen.

While the dreaded West Indian cricketers did not get much screen time during the movie, Tagenarine Chanderpaul did play the character of the Windies middle-order batter Larry Golmes in the movie.

For those unaware, Golmes was the second-highest run-scorer for West Indies during the 1983 World Cup behind the legendary Vivian Richards, with 258 runs across 7 innings at an average of 64.50.

Sons playing their fathers in ’83’

Chirag Patil, the Marathi film actor, played his father Sandeep Patil in the movie, who was a crucial member of team India during the 1983 World Cup.

While Chanderpaul played the character of Golmes in the film, Carl Greenidge played his father Gordon Greenidge on-screen.

Also, Jason Llyod, son of the legendary Clive Lloyd, played a part in the movie as well. While he did not feature as Clive in the movie, he did play the tall pacer Joel Garner in the same, courtesy of his tall height.
