“He left a lot of points for the championship”- Pierre Gasly judges Yuki Tsunoda’s F2 performances
“He left a lot of points for the championship”- Pierre Gasly makes a judgement on Yuki Tsunoda’s F2 season, where the Japanese finished third.
Yuki Tsunoda is set to make his debut in Formula 1 this season; the Japanese driver impressed his bosses at Red Bull by giving incredible performances in his rookie season in F2. Hence, giving him a promotion to the top tier.
Tsunoda finished third in the championship, 15 points behind the champion Mick Schumacher. Still, considering it was his first season in F2, it seems to be an excellent record, making F2 confer him with rookie of the season award.
However, coming to his new teammate Pierre Gasly, who himself won F2 championship back in 2016, claims that Tsunoda dropped many points for the championship, which were in his favour.
“He did really well there several times. He won many times and was often on the pole. He left a lot of points for the championship in a few moments, but in general, I think he did well,” Gasly said.
Pierre Gasly had a conversation with Tsunoda.
On gelling up with his new teammate, Gasly revealed that he had a conversation with Tsunoda at Abu Dhabi, and apart from mentoring him, Gasly also expects to learn a few things from Tsunoda.
“We did the track walk together in Abu Dhabi,” explains Gasly to Motorsport.com. “For me, it doesn’t really matter who drives next to me. I have to do it as well as I can,” concludes the Frenchman.
The French driver had an impressive season with Alpha Tauri, where he managed to bag a Grand Prix win at Monza. Forcing Red Bull to give Gasly the leadership baton in the sister team.
But, the question remains for how long Gasly will remain with the setup, as a rise back to the primary team seems distant as of now, and Alpha Tauri provides him stagnancy.
