“We aim to swap it to the second half of the year”- Chinese Grand Prix promoter inclined for race postponement
“We aim to swap it to the second half of the year”- Chinese Grand Prix promoter inclined to postpone the race to another month in 2021.
While there was a threat to the Australian Grand Prix, now in the new update, the Chinese Grand Prix is amidst the threat of postponement this year with COVID-19 spreading globally.
In a recent conversation with the Autosport, Yibin Yang, the general manager of race promoter Juss Event has claimed that the Chinese Grand Prix may be shifter to a later date in the calendar.
“We have been in contact [with F1] via conference call almost every week”, Yibin Yang, the general manager of race promoter Juss Event, told local media including Autosport on Saturday.
“Despite the calendar being in place, as usual, I think it’s hugely uncertain the F1 race would take place in the first half of the year, in April,” he added.
“We aim to swap it to the second half of the year, and we have formally submitted the request that we hope to move it to the second half of the year.”
Last year also, the race in Shanghai was the first to be cancelled, as the COVID-19 virus first started spreading in China.
Need to fill in the slot
The race in China as of now was scheduled for April, but with Vietnamese Grand Prix already eliminated from the calendar, and now Chinese Grand Prix officials demanding an exit, a second vacant spot in April may open.
Therefore, another race might have to be pushed up or have to appoint an alternate, at least the latter case will happen to replace the abandoned Vietnamese race.
It remains to be seen how Formula 1 now solves this solution, while there are contenders in Europe ready to fill in.
