“James Wiseman gets too hard on himself”: Warriors star Draymond Green advises rookie sensation to have a short memory for failure
Warriors’ Draymond Green talks about rookie James Wiseman, offers advice to him ahead of game vs Toronto Raptors.
The Warriors posted a major upset last night, as they managed to overcome a 22 point deficit and beat the Clippers 115-105. A miraculous 29-3 run by Steph Curry and co. led to the comeback becoming a reality. Curry had another monster night, as he scored 38 points and dished 11 assists.
Warriors’ rookie sensation James Wiseman had a quick 9 points and 6 rebounds in his 15 minutes on the floor. He started the game but was out of the match quickly. We got some clarity about this when Draymond Green spoke to the media tonight, after practice. According to Draymond, the 19-year-old gets ‘too frustrated with himself and takes himself out of games’ when he cannot seem to perform.
“You have to be able to forget”: Draymond Green to James Wiseman
The 19-year-old rookie James Wiseman just played his 9th game in the NBA last night. It was his 12th official match post-high school. 12 matches and he is already a starter for an NBA team. He has accomplished a lot, and he isn’t even 20 yet. However, the young center still has a lot to learn.
After practice on Saturday, Draymond talked to the media about Wiseman and the two games against the Clippers. Wiseman was matched up against Serge Ibaka, who is a very crafty veteran in the league. Suffice to say, Ibaka made sure Wiseman could not put his best foot down, and that started bothering Wiseman, till he checked out of the game.
Draymond has something to say for the same, which involved some advice for the rookie.
Draymond Green on James Wiseman: “He gets too frustrated with himself. He gets so frustrated he kind of takes himself out of his game. I told him, I probably had one of the worst games of my career last night, but made some plays down the stretch. You have to be able to forget.”

Learning how to move on from a bad night is a very important thing to know in the league. Draymond, who has gladly taken on the mentor role for Wiseman has been trying to teach him the same.
It would be interesting to see how the rookie takes Green’s advice, and how he fares tomorrow, when the Raptors make their way to the Bay Area for their first matchup for the season.
