Will Pucovski injury: The Australian batsman walked off the field with an injured shoulder at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

During the fifth day of the third Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia in Sydney, the list of injured players continued to pile on as Australia opening batsman Will Pucovski injured his shoulder while trying to stop a ball.

It all happened on the third delivery of the 86th over when India batsman Hanuma Vihari guided a Nathan Lyon delivery through the mid-wicket region for a couple of runs.

Pucovski, who was fielding at mid-wicket, unsuccessfully attempted to prevent the Indian batsmen from running two runs. However, his dive brought trouble for himself as an uncomfortable landing hurt his shoulder and witnessed him in significant pain.

After remaining on the ground for some time, Pucovski got up after help from his teammates but couldn’t continue fielding in the middle. With his ongoing debut Test getting already delayed due to a concussion injury, walking off the field would have been the last thing which Pucovski wanted in his first international appearance.

Pucovski, who was photographed while sitting in the dressing room with an ice pack strapped to his shoulder, is said to have left the venue to undergo scans to assess the exact condition of his right shoulder.

Having scored a praiseworthy half-century on his debut innings, Pucovski had received a lot of praise from former Australian cricketers. With such kind of a backing, it would be a pity if the 22-year old player missed the fourth Test in Brisbane.

If the situation comes down to the same, Australia might again promote batsman Matthew Wade as an opening batsman alongside David Warner and bring back former vice-captain Travis Head into the XI. Another option for the hosts would be to open with a specialist opener in Marcus Harris and continue to play one out of Wade or Head at No. 5.
