‘NBA players deserve to jump the line for COVID-19 vaccine’: Charles Barkley controversially argues why American pro sportspersons deserve the vaccine early
Charles Barkley encourages NFL and NBA players to push for preferential treatment with regards to vaccine distribution.
Charles Barkley had recently made an astounding take on “Inside the NBA” regarding vaccine distribution. The Hall of Famer claimed that NBA players are entitled to receive the vaccine earlier than others.
He rationalized the same by stating that they pay more in taxes. Even though his co-hosts vehemently disagreed with him, Charles relented that NBA players deserve the vaccine more.

When will pro-athletes receive the vaccine?
As per the guidelines laid down by the Center for Disease and Control, there will be three phases of vaccine distribution. The first two phases are intended to serve essential workers, those who have pre-existing conditions, senior citizens, healthcare professionals, etc. NBA players would fall squarely within the third phase which intends to serve the general public.
The league would require a little over one thousand vaccines in order to serve all players. Barkley seems to think that thousand vaccines won’t really make a difference.
However, this could be farther from the truth as there is a limited supply of the vaccine. Despite Barkley’s comments, most NBA players have vowed to wait for their turn patiently. Hopefully, the vaccine rollout will take place smoothly and the world will recover from the deadly pandemic soon.
Barkley is no stranger to bad takes, however, nearly all of them were directly related to the game of basketball. He tried to pass his comments off as legitimate by stressing that income should not be a deciding factor. However, the amount of taxes one pays is a function of the amount of money one earns.
