“Karl-Anthony Towns was hit by a drunk driver”: Timberwolves star center reveals the worst experiences of his extended 2020 offseason
We knew Karl-Anthony Towns had a wretched 2020 on the family front, losing 8 members including his mom to Covid. But this accident news is new.
Towns has been the sole bright light for the Minnesota Timberwolves over the past 6 seasons. The big man has become the best shooting center in NBA history, regularly averaging in the mid-40s for 3-point percentage. Last season, he connected on 43% of his 7+ 3-point attempts per game – numbers right in line with those of Klay Thompson.
Towns’ basketball situation has been dire ever since Jimmy Butler left Minneapolis. But 2020 was even worse for him on a whole other level. He lost his mother and 7 other family members to the pandemic. He himself contracted the disease at the fag end of the year.
His Timberwolves team has suffered in his absence. They’re a bottom 3 team in the league thus far with a 4-13 record. Towns has only played 4 games this season for them.
Karl-Anthony Towns reveals the details of his accident in Q&A
Towns recently revealed that he was hit by a drunk driver this offseason while in Los Angeles. This was on a Q&A session he held with fans on Instagram. He said the following about the incident:
“My woman has held me down more than the world knows. From my mother and family members dying (1 on her bday in Cabo), getting hit by a drunk driver (was 2pm in the afternoon FYI) in LA this off-season and staying with me in the hospital for the night and helping me in rehab.”

Towns is slated to return from a wrist injury he suffered 2 weeks ago in a short while. The Timberwolves will keep tanking in all probability, but the acquisition of Anthony Edwards and Malik Beasley has bolstered the team’s wing depth well. They are set up to be playoff contenders before long.
