Imola F1: How much is Imola paying to Liberty Media for 2021 Grand Prix? Report reveals
Imola F1: How much money Imola is paying to the Liberty Media to allocate the 2nd Grand Prix of the 2021 season revised schedule.
Italy will be the only nation in 2021 to host two Grand Prix this year, as Imola and Monza have found their way into the busiest F1 schedule of all time.
Imola was among the fans’ favourite tracks in the recently recalled circuits in 2020 amidst the pandemic. Thus, it rightfully earned its 2nd call in 2021.
But for that, the association at the circuit had to pay the price to extend their partnership with Liberty Media, and in the recent report by the Motorsport.com, they have quoted the price.
The report has revealed that around €10 million were paid by the authorities to the Liberty media to receive a one-year contract to organize a Grand Prix this year.
The venue bordering the major city like Bologna and an hour away from San Marino (the race at Imola from 1981 to 2006 was known as San Marino GP) is also described as Ferrari’s home, where if attendance allowed, one could witness a Tifosi wave.
Government involved in payment
The report further states that the government of Italy and local authority contributed in amassing that amount so that the nation could have two Grand Prix events in a year.
The involvement of national politics seems to be reflected by adding the slogan Made in Italy to the race’s name. Meanwhile, there are talks of adding another track from Europe to fill in the abandoned Vietnamese Grand Prix.
Contrary to F1’s objective to include more non-European countries into the umbrella, but amidst the extraordinary times, European destinations are only the last resort, as they already have the existing infrastructure to make a last-minute entry and easing logistic complications and cropping the tiring travel time for the contingent.
