Usman Khawaja changes jock strap: The batsman from Sydney Thunder had called in for a new jock strap at the Manuka Oval today.

During the knockout match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat in Canberra, Sydney Thunder opening batsman Usman Khawaja had to call in for a new jock strap while batting in the middle.

It all happened after the eighth over when Khawaja put on display a rare but amusing sight of a batsman removing his shoes, pads and pants to change his jock strap. The fun element was evident at the Manuka Oval as both the spectators and commentators saw the funny side of the incident.

Opening the batting with Alex Hales, Khawaja departed after scoring a below par 28 (30) with the help of four fours despite receiving a couple of reprieves.

Khawaja, who was plumb in front off Xavier Bartlett in the first over of the match, wasn’t declared out by the on-field umpire before Brisbane Heat all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne dropped him off his own bowling. However, it was Labuschagne who dismissed the left-handed batsman in the same over.

In what hasn’t been the best of tournaments for Khawaja, the 34-year old player so far scored 338 runs in 15 matches at an average and strike rate of 24.14 and 127.54 respectively.

Earlier, it was Heat captain Chris Lynn who had won the toss and asked Thunder to bat first. On the back of all-rounder Ben Cutting top-scoring with 34* (18) with the help of one four and four sixes, Thunder scored a mediocre 158/8 in 20 overs. With bowling figures of 3-0-22-2, Mark Steketee was the pick of the bowlers for Heat.
