“We will have a reasonably normal season again after”- Toto Wolff points at a date for normalcy in F1, amidst the stressful pandemic reorganization.
The pandemic has set its wrath in 2021 too, with new strains being spotted, countries are taking cautionary steps to prevent the mass spread repeat as witnessed in 2020.
While the vaccines for the virus have been rolled out, things were expected to be normal, but considering the world population, it will require time, and Toto Wolff understands why other countries are still showing restraint.
Speaking to ORF as quoted by Motorsport-Total, Mercedes team boss, Toto Wolff, said, “This fear is of course justified, Australia has been postponed, but the Grand Prix is so important that they didn’t want to cancel it entirely. It will follow suit at the end of the year.”
“And China has a general ban for major events until August. These are two factors that cannot be influenced. That’s why we start in Bahrain.”
Toto Wolff has a date.
He also mentioned that with medical science catching onto the virus, things for F1 at least might get normal by the end of the summer, the same time when the 2020 season was started.
“I assume that we will have a reasonably normal season again after the summer .” However, he has warned about the consequences of a lengthy 23-race schedule this year, amidst a pandemic.
“It will certainly be incredibly difficult for the race team too. We will have three triple headers in a row. You won’t come home for four weeks. That is, of course, an enormous burden.”
Despite complaining about the lengthy schedule, he and his team hasn’t shown any official dissent to the proposal made by F1. Rather, it was only McLaren, who has voiced the fatigue concerns to the authorities so far.
