“You don’t feel competing in the same championship as the Mercedes”- Romain Grosjean
“You don’t feel competing in the same championship as the Mercedes”- Romain Grosjean explains what it feels like being far behind Mercedes.
Romain Grosjean in 2020 finished his spell at Formula 1; he was associated with Haas for four years before he and his teammate Kevin Magnussen were replaced by F1 rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.
Unlike Magnussen, Grosjean never got a proper end to his time at Haas, as the horrific crash at Bahrain kept him unfit for the last two races of 2020.
Now reportedly ready to join IndyCar series, Grosjean is open to talking against F1. According to him, while he was at Haas, it never felt like competing against Mercedes, unlike pre-hybrid era.
“I’ve got to say; it’s the pure racing that I loved for many years as I was coming through, and that I missed for so many years recently. In Formula 1, you don’t feel like you are even competing in the same championship as the Mercedes,” he said to Motorsport.com.
Nobody can even touch them.
Despite winning successive seven world titles, none of the big team managed to end their dominance as Grosjean opines that the Brackley based team is untouchable in its exploits.
“Knowing that basically everyone has the same car, the same chance is something I’ve missed. And then knowing that if you have a tough qualifying or a problem at the beginning of a race.”
“You as a driver can make the difference because the cars are so closely matched or the team can help you make the difference with strategy… it’s mega,” concluded Grosjean.
Even this year, Mercedes is set to dominate the status quo of F1. It has been argued that the new engine regulations usually bring a gigantic change in the system, and that is going to come in 2026.
