BREAKING: PV Sindhu has released a statement after being nominated for the Padma Bhushan
PV Sindhu’s nomination for the Padma Bhushan came as no surprise as she has improved leaps and bounds and has helped India to cement its place on the global Badminton map.
When Saina Nehwal’s career had taken a slight hit, Sindhu emerged as the saviour, someone who took on the baton from Saina, and just excelled in her own way at the international level.
And with that exceptional last season, wherein she won the Olympic silver and two Super Series titles, the Sports Ministry has decided to bestow her with the Padma Bhushan.
PV Sindhu was extremely humbled after receiving the nomination.
“I am very happy that my name has been recommended for the Padma Bhushan. I would like to thank the government and the Sports Ministry,” Sindhu said.
Sindhu has already been conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2016 and joins MS Dhoni as the second sportsperson to be nominated for the Padma Bhushan this year.
Sindhu is currently ranked number 2 in the world and would be hoping to clinch the number 1 spot by a strong show in the remaining Super Series events this year.
She will be looking to bounce back from her loss to Nozomi Okuhara in the Japan Open, and will be hoping that she can come out on top in this little rivalry that is brewing between two future legends of the sport.
