“It is definitely tempting”- Aston Martin wouldn’t miss on the opportunity of signing Lewis Hamilton amidst 2022 uncertainty.
Aston Martin is mapping its progress in Formula 1, and few rivals have also tipped for their success. The signing of Sebastian Vettel is being perceived as the exhibition of their intentions.
Now, the team owner Lawrence Stroll has spoken about the opportunity of signing Lewis Hamilton, and for him, it would be a “tempting” deal to execute.
“It is definitely tempting,” he said, according to the Independent. “Lewis in any car is great, and I am sure everyone would say yes because he is a seven-time world champion. But right now, I am extremely focused on getting started this year.”
With Williams reported to align with Alpine, Mercedes would need to relocate George Russell soon. Considering he is the shining prospect, one of Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas might be axed in the end.
Additionally, both drivers signed only one-year-long contract extensions. Hamilton is already at the stage where his achievements with Mercedes from 2022 onwards might sound superfluous, so he might be the one to take a step down.
Budget caps are game-changers
The budget caps introduction gives a level field to the midtable teams to compete against the top teams in the sport. And Stroll believes that they are going to be the game-changers.
“From a competitive point of view, the budget cap changes the sport dramatically. The big three teams were significantly outspending everyone and probably had 400-500 more staff. All of that has now gone.”
“Here, we are building a brand new state-of-the-art facility. It will be the most modern facility in Formula One. This team has punched above its weight with significantly fewer resources,” he added.
“And I sincerely believe with the same amount of people and the same budget, there is no reason why world championships are not very much on the cards. It is very realistic to think that.”
