“Even Michael Jordan would want Kobe Bryant to be the NBA logo”: Kendrick Perkins backs Kyrie Irving on his request to replace Jerry West as the NBA logo

Kendrick Perkins says that he believes Kobe Bryant should be the NBA logo and players across the league would not object to it. 

Following the untimely passing of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, NBA fans were lobbying for some sort of a permanent tribute to be made to celebrate the life and career of the ‘Black Mamba’. What many settled on at the time was to replace Jerry West on the NBA’s logo and have Kobe Bryant’s silhouette be the new logo. 

As time went on, the idea eventually faded away. However, Kyrie Irving recently took to Instagram to bring life back to this idea in a big way, claiming that Kobe needs to be the new logo. “Gotta happen, I don’t care what anyone says. Black kings built the league.”

Kyrie Irving and Kobe Bryant became very close throughout the former’s first few years in the NBA. Kyrie even admitted that Kobe was the first person he called after winning the 2016 NBA championship.

It makes sense that he would back this proposition up and Kendrick Perkins agrees with the 7x All-Star.

While on air with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman, former Celtic Kendrick Perkins let it be known that he fully supports Kyrie Irving in his campaign for putting Bryant on the NBA’s new logo:

“The NBA logo is a symbol. Kobe is an icon and the Mamba mentality is the mindset that every player in the league should have, because tomorrow isn’t promised.”

Kobe Bryant dedicated his life to becoming the best basketball player he could. The ‘Mamba Mentality’ brand was founded on the ideals that Kobe built up which included perseverance and determination. There are thousands of stories from different people in the NBA about the Mamba and his work ethic. 

Whether it was his outrageous workout timings to his intense practice sessions with his teammates, Kobe Bryant is the embodiment of what NBA players need to do to reach the level he did.

As far as anyone’s concerned, players within the league or former players who could be in the running for being the new logo would have no problem with Kobe taking over Jerry West’s mantle.
