“Once Kevin Durant comes back, only the Nets can beat themselves”: Skip Bayless plays down LeBron James and his Lakers’ threat to Brooklyn in this year’s title hunt

Skip Bayless takes to Twitter to claim that the only team that can beat Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets is themselves. 

The NBA’s newest superteam in the Brooklyn Nets has taken the league by storm. When rumors started to surface that James Harden is interested in joining forces with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn, doubters cautioned against going through with the deal. They believed giving up on valuable depth for a 3rd superstar would be ill-advised. 

However, nearly 2 months into the Harden-era Nets, fans call for the ‘Beard’ to be placed in the MVP conversation as he’s the sole orchestrator of the Nets’ offense, averaging 11 assists per game. Even in Kevin Durant’s prolonged absence, James Harden has stepped up and led the Nets to a 23-13 record, which is good enough for 2nd in the East.

With KD still on the mend, it is indeed, “scary hours” for the rest of the league, and Skip Bayless is all aboard the Nets hype train. 

Skip Bayless believes Kevin Durant and co are the best team in the NBA

Though Skip Bayless seems to be quite enamored by the new-look Brooklyn Nets, he does send them a warning over Twitter. “When KD gets back after the break, only one team will be able to beat them: themselves.” 

As usual, Skip has made it a point to allude to his distaste for a LeBron James-led team as he ‘snubbed’ them from being a threat to the Brooklyn Nets. Barring any serious injury to any player on either roster, the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers are perhaps the best teams in their respective conferences.

The problems that are associated with the Nets roster construction all lie on the defensive end of the floor. Offensively, the Nets are pace to becoming one of the greatest scoring teams of all time. Defensively however, the Nets have yet to find their footing. 

The Nets rotate between switching everything to playing a solid zone defense most of the time, with the former technique proving to be more fruitful. However, the Nets prove to be helpless against dominant and versatile big men such as Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid. As Bayless stated: for the Nets to be their fully actualized self, they need to find a balance on both ends of the floor.
