“I think I’ll never step out of his shadow”- Carlos Sainz on his father, who was a highly rated rally driver, unlike his son who’s in F1.

With every passing year, Carlos Sainz is reaching new heights in Formula 1, recently being his move to Ferrari. However, he still thinks that he hasn’t eclipsed his father, who was also into the world of motorsport.

Though his father was not into F1, instead was a highly rated and successful rally driver, winning two world championships. In comparison, Sainz is still concreting his feet in the sport.

“No, no. Not yet,” he replies to the Motorsport when asked whether, like a Ferrari driver, he is already a legend like his father. “I think I’ll never step out of his shadow. He had a completely different career than me.”

“I have not yet made it, even if that is, of course, my goal,” says his son. “But I’m still a long way from that.” Because the Spaniard is still waiting for his first victory, even if he was close in Monza last year.”

Carlos Sainz Jnr. was a pioneer

While further praising his father, he also pointed out the highlights of his father’s career in the World Rally Championship. Thus, he thinks that beating his father is impossible.

“He was a pioneer, a special driver back then and brought about many changes in the World Rally Championship even though I’m now part of Ferrari and have achieved one of my biggest dreams, if not the biggest.

“He has these two world championships, three Dakar victories and this entire career. That will be difficult for me to catch up with. To beat him is impossible, I think.”

In his present experience in F1, Sainz has never been the part of the top teams to give a shot at the world title, and Ferrari is by far the biggest move in his career.
