“Lakers are looking to trade Kentavious Caldwell-Pope”: NBA analyst speculates KCP is actively being shopped away from LeBron James and co.
The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to trade Kentavious Caldwell Pope away from the team by the end of the March 25th trade deadline.
After having claimed their 17th title in franchise history, the Los Angeles Lakers looked to undergo a slight revamp in order to further increase their chances at repeating as world champions.
However, after a slew of devastating injuries to their superstars and disappointing play from their role players, the Lakers haven’t been the dominating Western Conference powerhouse they were poised to be.
A big factor in this has been the lackluster production from guys like Kentavious Caldwell Pope. KCP had been an integral part of the Lakers postseason run last year, scoring in double digits in 3 of the 6 Finals games against the Heat. This earned him a 3-year contract worth $40 million.
Following this contract extension, however, KCP has not played up to the mark for the Lakers. His defense on the perimeter has taken a nosedive while his offensive numbers have taken a dip across the board.
The Lakers look to trade KCP by March 25th
In an effort to keep themselves afloat amongst the top teams of the West, the Lakers have been in continual talks to acquire and let go of certain players. KCP’s tradeable contract has caused the Lakers to make him available for trade.
According to Brian Windhorst, it’s been no secret that the Lakers will be looking to move off of KCP come March 25th. He also reports that the purple and gold are confident in their ability to sign Andre Drummond if he gets bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Windhorst just said it’s not a secret the Lakers are shopping KCP. They’re also confident in getting Drummond if he’s bought out.

A commendable aspect about Frank Vogel and his coaching is that no matter the team he’s presented with, he makes sure their defense is always above average. The Lakers are in desperate need of a knock-down shooter from deep, a player they believed KCP could be for them.
