“How can I stand in front of a camera and say I eat Beanie Weenees?”: Michael Jordan reveals his incredible reason behind turning down a massive deal with Quaker
Michael Jordan once turned down an endorsement worth $1 Million with Quaker, because he said that he couldn’t say he ate it.
It’s pretty safe to say that if you’ve ever seen a basketball court, chances are you have heard the name Michael Jordan. His Airness has a long list of achievements throughout his career, including 6 championships and 5 MVPs.
With such great success, comes great popularity as well. During his prime, the player was quite possibly the most marketable athlete in the world. And so, the number of endorsement offers he received was massive at the time.

And after looking at the number of sponsorships he did have, it may be easy to assume he took every opportunity he ever got. However, it was revealed that His Airness once declined a massive deal for a frankly hilarious reason.
Michael Jordan reveals his image consciousness as the reason for turning down Quaker
Even amongst the people that loved Michel Jordan, the player always had a sort of tough-guy image. So, when Quaker came forward and asked him to endorse their product, he had a clear response in mind. Looking back at that time in a 1992 interview with Playboy, this is what Jordan had to say.

“My time is very important to me, as well as being credible about what I endorse…I don’t endorse anything I don’t actually use.”
He continued.
“Two or three years ago, Quaker Oats came to me to endorse Van Kamp’s pork and beans—Beanee Weenees, I think it was called… You ever heard of Beanee Weenees pork and beans? It was close to a million bucks a year. I’m saying, Beanee Weenees? How can I stand in front of a camera and say I’ll eat Beanee Weenees?”
Imagine Michael Jordan actually saying that he ate something that sounds like it was made to pander to children. Not only would his tough-guy image be shattered, but we’d probably also be laughing about it to this day.
