England Vs Poland: Injured Robert Lewandowksi To Miss Matchup With England
The two sides will be taking on each other in their world cup qualifier
In what is bound to be a massive setback to Poland ahead of their match with England later this week, the side’s striker, Robert Lewandowski was ruled out of the contest.
Lewandowski who was taken off in the 63rd minute of his country’s tie with Andorra had undergone scans to reveal the nature and extent of his injury. Those tests have now returned with a prognosis of collateral damage to Robert’s right knee ligament, one bound to leave the player ruled for atleast the next ten days.
Robert To Return To Bayern Munich
Robert will return to Bayern Munich immediately to undergone further tests and treatment. The club will be willing the striker is able to return in time for their Champions League outing with PSG.
Robert had netted twice for Poland against Andorra before his injury forced him to hobble off the park. Manager Paulo Sosa had spoken about how he was sweating over Robert’s injury before the Polish FA asserted the same in a statement.
A statement from the Polish FA said: “Robert Lewandowski will not play in Wednesday’s 2022 World Cup qualifying match against England in London due to an injury.
“Clinical and imaging studies have shown damage to the collateral ligament of the right knee.
“The short time remaining until the next match excludes the participation of the national team captain in this match. This would carry too much risk of aggravating the injury.
“This decision is the only right one, bearing in mind the upcoming EURO 2020 tournament.
“Treatment of this type of injury usually lasts from 5 to 10 days. Therefore, Robert Lewandowski will return to the club, where he will undergo further rehabilitation.”
The news meanwhile comes across as a massive shot in the arm to England with the country set to make the most of Robert’s absence. England are striving to make it three successive wins and with it hammer down their place atop of their group.
