Chelsea Top Premier League’s List Of Payment Dished Out To Football Agents Across 2020
The club had ended up paying a staggering 30 million pounds in agent fees alone
Across the years as money has been pumped into the Premier League with cash rich owners taking over clubs and broadcast rights being sold for record amounts, clubs have been opening their coffers to rope in worldclass players.
Not only the top tier clubs, but sides placed in the trenches of the marquee league have also been witnessed peddling out staggering amounts to indulge in the services of players. And as the clamour for players has grown, so has the lobbying by agents trying to get the best deals for their clients.
A slew of agents have taken over some of the hottest property in the football fraternity to broker deals between clubs. These colossal agreements have seen agents be richly awarded as well with clubs and players required to shell out a portion of the transfer fees to the agents.
The Football Association has revealed the fees paid by clubs to football agents for the period encompassing the February 2020 to January 2021 period. And only rightfully, Chelsea have topped the list with the club breaking the bank to accord 35 million pounds in fees to agents.
The London based side was always going to emerge as the leader in this pile owing to the transfer business to conducted last year. Despite most clubs being left devoid of funds owing to the COVID pandemic, Chelsea and Roman Abramovich had ended up buying 220 million pound worth of talent.
FIFA meanwhile is said to be working on a new set of guidelines, ones which would put a cap on the fees an agent is able to accrue from any transfer.
