“Stephen Curry and co created history on April 13, 2016”: 2015-16 Golden State Warriors go 73-9, breaking Michael Jordan and his 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ NBA record
This day 5 years ago Golden State Warriors became the first team to register 73 regular-season wins, overtaking the ’95-96 Bulls
The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors were one of the great teams in recent times. It was a magical season for the Warriors and their fans, as the Dubs were coming right off a championship in the previous season.
The Warriors, led by the MVP Stephen Curry had a strong 24-0 start to the season, despite head coach Steve Kerr not being around. Kerr returned a little over the halfway mark of the season, with Luke Walton having led the Warriors to a 39-4 record.
Having lost just 8 games in the entire season, the Warriors entered the arena for their 82nd game on April 13th, 2016. Having come off a win against the 2nd seeded San Antonio Spurs, who themselves boasted a record of 67-15, the Warriors were confident.
How the ’15-16 Golden State Warriors registered their 73rd win of the season
The Warriors entered the Oracle Arena to face off against the Memphis Grizzlies for the final regular-season game. They knew what was within their reach, and they played for the same, from right off the bat. The Dubs scored 37 in the opening frame alone, with Curry leading the way with a 20 point quarter, having made 6 3-pointers.
The barrage continued in the second frame, but a different Splash brother was causing the damage. Klay Thompson scored a quick 12 points in the 8 minutes of the frame, going 4-of-4 from 3s.

The Warriors were up 20 at the half, and rode the wave to a 125-104 win. Steph Curry lead the way with his 46 points, which included 10 made 3 pointers. With their 73rd win, the Warriors broke a 20-year-old record set by the ’95-96 Chicago Bulls.
With his 10 made 3s, Stephen Curry pushed his season tally to 402, and till-date remains the only player to cross 400 3s in a season. Stephen Curry became the first player to win the MVP honors unanimously.
The Warriors made their way to the 2nd straight finals, but lost 4-3 to the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers.
