“He’s a four-time world champion” – Sewis content for fans as Lewis Hamilton calls rivalry with Sebastian Vettel his favourite, whilst also paying a tribute to racing fan Prince Philip.
Here’s a fact for you – Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have won the last 10 of the 11 F1 world titles on offer. And despite their numerous battles – Vettel in Red Bull and Ferrari, and Hamilton in McLaren and Mercedes – the respect for each other is paramount, earning them the moniker ‘Sewis’.
“Knowing how hard it is to be where we are today, knowing I was racing against an incredible driver, and not only that, but a great man in Seb.
“He’s a four-time world champion. Ultimately when you’re racing against another team at the same time, Ferrari who were very strong at the time – it took a lot out of both of us in that period of time to remain focused, to deliver weekend in, weekend out.
“I think whilst it was a difficult period for us, I think it probably brought us closer as well, because the respect that we have between us is I think huge.”
Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
Hamilton also spoke about the demise of His Royal Highness Prince Philip at the age of 99. He termed the Duke of Edinburgh a racing fan and an inspiration to young people. To honour his funeral, Formula 1 has altered the schedule of the forthcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was such a racing fan and it’s so sad to hear of his passing, he had a really great, long, life and I know he was really committed to having an impact and helping young people. It is really inspiring, the legacy he has left behind.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty and the family and I am sure he will be watching from above.”
