“Don’t think he knew I was there” – Nikita Mazepin on Nicholas Latifi crash at Imola
“Don’t think he knew I was there” – Haas rookie Nikita Mazepin has let his feelings known on Nicholas Latifi crashing out of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
Williams driver Nicholas Latifi spun at Acque Minerale in wet conditions on the starting lap of the Emilia Romagna GP at Imola. What followed next as he made his way back to the track was a collision with the Haas of Nikita Mazepin, leading to the Williams being the first casualty of the day.

Mazepin has shrugged off accusations of involvement from his end, considering it was Latifi who came on to him. The Russian emphasized with the Canadian, explaining how the incident unfolded from the latter’s perspective.
“He came back from off-track, I don’t think he knew I was there. With these cars, if you go on the grass, if it is wet, you go to the wall so I stayed and gave him all the room I had.
“But I don’t think he was aware that I was there because you are obviously stressed when you go off and come back onto the circuit and I think that was just unfortunate for him.”
Mazepin completes race in boost for struggling Haas
After a disappointing super-short debut in Bahrain, Mazepin did brilliantly well to see the chequered flag in Imola. In a race where both Williams went out along with Valtteri Bottas in his Mercedes, as well as numerous other incidents, Guenther Steiner would be delighted with his and Mick Schumacher’s performance.
Mazepin is pleased, safe to say, going by his post-race comments.
“Definitely better than last time.
“So much happened in this race from starting on the wets and not really expecting it because the sunshine was not long before the start and the red flag. Loads of things happened but a good learning experience in the bag and to see the chequered flag was good.”
